P-Con Newsletter #5

Hello, and welcome to what is probably the last newsletter before P-CON II, as it’s now Tuesday, and the con starts in 4 days. There’s some important information in this, so you have to read it all!

First of all....

First of all, you need to know that the con starts on Saturday morning at 10 AM, but we’ll be there from about 8.30 AM, setting up, so feel free to drop along from about 9.00 to collect your badge and programme book.

The con takes place in the Ashling Hotel on Parkgate Street, now handily accessible via the Luas tram system Red Line. You just get on board at Abbey Street, or thereabouts, and get off at either the Museum at Collins’ Barracks, or at Heuston Station. You can even walk to the hotel from the city centre, just by following the tramline, as it passes directly outside our door. Or, of course, by good old Dublin Bus.

You can find details of all this in the Travel section of our website, at the Travel Page.

If you haven’t already paid your membership fee for the con, the price for the weekend on the door is €30, or you can get a one-day membership for €15.

Guests Update

We are sorry to have to inform you both Tom Brenner and Katherine Kurtz have had to pull out of the con at the last minute due to circumstances beyond their control. We always put in the imprimatur that guests can only attend subject to their real lives allowing them to, and thus is the case here. We wish them both well, and hope to see them at a future convention.

Some of our other guests are not going to be in attendance for the entire duration. Diane Duane and Peter Morwood will be there on Sunday only, as they are flying to Germany the following day for the premiere theatre screening of their TV series based on the Nibelungenlied, and need to prepare themselves.

George Green will only be there on Saturday, but has promised to come back next time. Ariel and Maggie Furey both have to leave sometime Sunday afternoon. But other than that, we’ve a full attendance by the con’s guests, all the way from Saturday morning to Sunday night!

Programme Now Online

You can see the programme of events for the convention online on our website. as we speak.See it here.

The programme is of course subject to sudden change!

Writers Course

We have now filled 10 of the 15 places allotted for Guest of Honour Juliet E McKenna’s Writers’ Course on Sunday morning. This, briefly, is a two-hour version of a course Juliet has run successfully elsewhere, and comes with not only lots of practical advice, but also a ticket entitling you to send her 5000 words of your work, along with a detailed synopsis, for her to critically analyse at some point in the future.

If you’re interested in attending this, then reply here as soon as you can, or talk to someone at the registration desk at the convention.

Table Quiz

There’s a table quiz being held at 8 PM on Saturday night as part of the con. If you’re a member of the con, you get to attend for no extra charge. However, if you’re not a member of the con, you can still attend as a member of a team for the wonderfully low price of €5 per person. There will also be a raffle at the quiz, as well as a second raffle at the closing ceremony.

The usual quiz rules apply: teams of 4, our answer is the definitive right answer, and no electronic devices of any kind can be used to help you in your efforts! And bring your own pens...

And that’s about all I have to tell you at the moment. We’ll be gathering in the bar in the hotel on Friday evening, so if you there, come up and say hello. I look forward to seeing you all at the con!

Best wishes,
Pádraig Ó Méalóid
P-CON II Chairman
