Member Profiles

You must read the Terms and Conditions before submitting a Profile. There is also a slightly less formal Plain English section, just to give you a clearer picture of what we mean. So have a look and then submit a profile.

Terms and Conditions
  1. The Phoenix Convention reserves the right to refuse, edit or remove Member profiles, at any time, entirely at its own discretion
  2. You may include links to other websites but we reserve the right to amend or remove links to outside sites on the grounds mentioned in the first condition.
  3. Outside sites mentioned in a profile should not be of a commercial nature although it is up to the discretion of the P-Con webmaster to decide on their suitability.
  4. The Phoenix Convention is not responsible for the content of sites mentioned in the Profiles. Although we will check them at the time of submission and on a continuing random basis, or on receipt of a complaint, we cannot be held liable for changes to sites mentioned or for the content of other websites which are linked from these sites or for any damage or injury caused by visiting these sites.
  5. Any profile that contains a link to a website that contains malicious code or trys to install software, WITHOUT or even WITH the users permission, will be removed, in accordance with condition 1.
  6. Submissions to this section are only open to attending or supporting members of P-Con. P-Con reserves the right to check whether the Profile originates with or is submitted by the person under whose name it is submitted.
  7. We will not publish your email address for security and safety reasons.
  8. The person who submits the profile agrees to accept liability for any loss or injury caused by the contents of the submission. Such injury or loss will not be the responsibility of P-Con. Profiles should not breach copyright or infringe any laws.
  9. Profiles submitted to the P-Con website remain the copyright of the submitter. We will remove a profile if the owner of the profile asks.
  10. If you have chosen to use a nickname or have chosen a badge name on your application form, we will use that instead of your real name.
  11. The "Plain English Guide" below is only to help clarify issues in the terms and conditions and should not be interpreted to be the actual Terms and Conditions.
  12. Submissions to the Member Profile section will be taken as proof that the submitter has read and accepts all conditions as laid out.

A Plain English Guide

So what was all that about?

As far as humanly and humanely possible, what goes into your P-Con profile is up to yourself.

We are more than happy to include pictures, links to other sites or what have you. As for the actual text, that's up to you as well. Just use a bit of common sense in what you include. If we think there is something illegal or malicious in the profile or it links to something mad or bad, we aren't going to put it up on the site. (Although we are fairly lenient on the mad part. Put this way: I don't have a maiden aunt, but if I did she would be a really cool maiden aunt, who would blush at rude words, but would be giggling as well. Now if you can avoid offending this woman, who has never done any harm to you, and is kind to animals, then you should be OK.)

The bit about not accepting links to commercial sites basically means links should be going to something vaguely in the general region of science fiction, fantasy or horror or a personal page, not to companies or one of these links that will get you money if someone clicks on it. Obviously we are going to use our discretion on this one, and we aren't going to bump a profile because a page that it links to happens to have an advert in it.

The profile remains your property. If you want to change it or remove it, just contact the P-Con webmaster and he'll do it as quickly as possible. The webmaster doesn't mind changing the profiles every now and then but don't do it every second day, or the webmaster will get peeved, and why would you want to be the cause of that?

We aren't going to include email address on the grounds of personal safety and security (and spam, come to think of it).

If you want to use your badge name or a nickname, that's fine. If you have chosen a Badge Name, and you should look at the application form if you are not sure what we mean by that, that is the name we will use in the Profile, unless you decide you want to use your real name.
