Colmán Ó Raghallaigh is the co-founder of Cló Mhaigh Eo, an Irish language publishing company based in Mayo in the West of Ireland, which himself and his wife set up in 1995 to publish good quality Irish language books for children and young adults.
Cló Mhaigh Eo has published books by a number of writers, including Iarla Mac Aodha Bhui, Ré Ó Laighléis and Colmán himself. He has written a number of books for children, and one of them, Drochlá Ruairí, was the first children's book by an Irish author to be published on CD ROM, in either of the country’s two languages.
Besides these, he has published the first two volumes in an ongoing series of Irish language graphic novels concentrating on Irish myth and legend. The first of these, An Sclábhaí, is the first part of a two-part retelling of the story of Saint Patrick, with the second part due shortly. The two volumes together have been picked up by prestigious American graphic novel publishers NBM, who will publish an English-language version of the story in the near future.
He has also published An Tóraíocht, the story of ill-fated lovers Diarmuid and Gráinne from Ireland’s Fianníocht legend cycle. More volumes are to follow, including An Táin, based on the story of Cúchulainn and the cattle raid of Cooley, and Árd Rí, which is the story of Brian Boru and the battle of Clontarf.
He works otherwise as a primary school teacher, and lives in Mayo with his wife Mairéad and their two children, Gráinne and Pádraic.
