Juliet E McKenna was born in Lincolnshire in the
latter half of the twentieth century, but now lives in West Oxfordshire with her husband and two sons.
An interest in Greek myth and folk tales in her
childhood led to a classics degree in Oxford, where
she became involved with Oxford University Speculative
Fiction Group and both table-top and live-action
role-playing, for which she found herself increasingly
writing scenarios. All of this in turn (along with
taking up Aikido somewhere along the way) more or less
led to her trying her hand at writing fantasy fiction.
A stint working at her local bookshop helped her to
see the business from the inside, as did the Crime and
Mystery Weekends run at Oxford every summer, which
allowed her to meet a number of writers, as well as
agents and publishers, all of which came in useful
when the time came to submit her first novel, The
Thief's Gamble, which became the first volume of the
Tales of the Einarinn. Since then, Juliet has had five volumes of
the Tales of the Einarinn published, and has plans for a new
series, provisionally titled The Aldabreshin
Compass.
Besides all this, Juliet is a friendly, intelligent
and witty guest, and we are delighted to welcome her
to our convention.
