Con News: V for Very Nice of Warners

Warner Brothers have very kindly donated ten sets of double tickets for the preview screening of V for Vendetta to the raffle and charity auction at the convention. The screening will take place in a Dublin city cinema on the evening of Monday the 13th. As timing would have it, Leah Moore & John Reppion, who are attending the con as Comics Gusts of Honour, will still be in Dublin, so will also be attending the preview.

The tickets will be available both as raffle prizes and also in the charity auction. The charity auction, in aid of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund, will take place at 4 PM on Saturday afternoon, and the raffle at the closing ceremony on Sunday evening.

Other donations to the charity auction include original artwork from some of Ireland’s leading comics artists, numerous signed books from the attending authors, as well as books form some writers who were not able to attend, like Kim Newman and Ian Watson, and original dust jackets from the first editions of Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic.

In other news, the programme of events for Saturday is on the site, with the Sunday listings to come tomorrow.

Guest News: Good and Bad News, Bad News First...

We are sorry to announce that Eugene Byrne will not be able to attend the convention this year, as he has another committment connected to the Brunel 200 celebrations. You can find one of the pages from the biography of Isambard himself - in comic form - that he has co-produced with the artist Simon Gurr here.

The good news is that Charlie Stross and his partner Feorag NicBhride will be attending the convention this year. Feorag, of course, designed the wonderful Phoenix logo for the convention and Charlie Stross has written quite a lot. We are delighted that both of them can attend.
