Guest Profile: George Green

Image of George GreenGeorge Green was born in that loveliest of cities, Dublin in the year of 1956, before moving to Tipperary, where the family lived in a house built on an ancient burial mound. After university he embarked on a career in sport and leisure in the hope that it would not be too difficult and help him meet girls.

After ten years he began to see the error of his ways, and took an MA in Creative Writing in Lancaster University, where he still is, although now working as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in their Dept of English and Creative Writing.

So, does he have any advice for budding writers? He says, "I tell undergraduates to go away, fall in love, have your heart broken then come back and write about it!"

Described as "a very funny writer with an eye for the ridiculous in human behaviour", George Green is the author of Hound, his first novel, which is a version of the Táin Bó Cúalnge, and was published by Transworld in August 2003. The hound of the title is, of course, Cúchulainn, the Hound of Ulster.

His second book, Hawk was released in 2005 and came out in paperback last September.

Besides Irish fiction, George is interested in the Western, and the nature of Biography.

George's website is at www.george-green.co.uk.

P-Con IV is over and we would like to thank everyone: our Guest of Honour, Kim Newman, all our guests and everyone who came to the convention for making it a great weekend.

We are already getting ready for P-Con V next year. We haven’t quite pinned down the date, although it will be in the Spring of 2008, but we have confirmed our next Guest of Honour.

We are delighted to announce that the Guest of Honour for P-Con V will be Catie Murphy.
