Various Current and Forthcoming Events

Posted 4 years, 2 months ago on October 23, 2006

Here’s a quick overview of a few current and forthcoming event here in Ireland for the rest of 2006, in roughly chronological order.

HORRORTHON: IFI 26 October – 30 October

The ninth annual Horrorthon film festival takes place in the Irish Film Institute, Eustace Street, Dublin 2 from the 26th October to 30th October 2006.

CORALINE: Various Venues October – November 2006

Neil Gaiman’s novel Coraline, adapted for the stage, and performed by Púca Puppets, is touring the country, and has been for a wee while now. You can catch it in the Project Arts Centre until the 28th of October, then in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray, Co. Wicklow on the 1st of November, the Source Arts Centre in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on the 9th of November, and finally in the Solstice Arts Centre in Navan, Co. Meath from 16th November to 18th November.

WORLD GHOST CONVENTION: 27 October – 3 November

The World Ghost Convention 2006 takes place in Cork City Gaol, Sunday’s Well, Cork on Friday, October 27th at 8 p.m.

Full details here.

BELFAST BOOK FAIR: 11 November

Michael Perkins of Queen’s SciFi says:

Just a quick note to let people know that the 24th Belfast Book Fair (promising “Paperbacks, hardbacks, novels and books on every conceivable subject”!) will be held in the Wellington Park Hotel, Malone Road, on Saturday 11th November from 10am – 5pm.

Admission is £2 (£1 concession).

ONE MAN STAR WARS: SPIRIT 13 November – 25 November

Charles Ross’s One Man Star Wars should be fairly self-explanatory. It’s running in Spirit on Middle Abbey Street for two weeks during November, and you can book tickets here

DUBLIN COMIC CON 25 November

I’ve already mentioned this here, but also wanted to mention that the previous night, Friday the 24th November, there will be a big Charity Table Quiz in aid of Crohn’s Disease.

John Hendrick of The 3rd Place says:

We’re hosting a pub quiz on Friday the 24th of November upstairs in the Bull and Castle Pub at Christchurch. It will be a selection of questions and topics from Comic Books to General Knowledge.

A table of 4 costs €40 and all the con guests will be attending so it’s your chance to get up close and personal for a beer with some of comics best writers and artists. Who, by the way will have their own team and have already boasted to me that they think they’re going to win this. What’s even better is all proceeds from the night are going to charity, so you can’t say fairer than that.

After the quiz we’ve got the venue for the night so we’ll be able to stay on there until the wee hours of the morning in preparation for the con the next day. Anyone interested in coming along should let me know and anyone who can’t get a full team together I’ll hook up with other participants.
