UT Events have announced a major Doctor Who Convention to be held in Belfast in May 2007.

Genesis takes places in Park Avenue Hotel, Holywood Road, Belfast on Sunday 27th May 2007, and guests at the event include Colin Baker, who played the 6th Doctor; Louise Jameson, who played Leela, the companion to the 4th Doctor in 1977 – 1978; and Annette Badland, who played Margaret Blaine, a member of the Slitheen. More information about the guests is available on UT Events’ Guests’ Page.

Prices for the event currently stand at STG£30 for adults and STG15 for children under 12, with under 12s to be accompanied by a paying adult. No Euro prices are listed, but if you multiply by 1.5, you’ll get a general idea of what it costs.

As reported earlier, P-CON IV will be held in Wynn’s Hotel, Dublin over the weekend of the 10th and 11th March, 2007.

A temporary website for the fourth Phoenix Convention, P-CON IV, is now online and you can find it here.

The site will be moving to a new address in the next few weeks, but you can find the latest news, application forms and other information about the 2007 convention on that site in the meantime.

Sci-Fi Extravaganza as part of Holylands Arts Festival

Posted 5 years, 4 months ago on September 25, 2005

As part of the Holylands Arts Festival in Belfast from the 2nd to the 9th of October, there will be a Sci-Fi Extravaganza night in the Menagerie, University Street, on Tuesday 4th October at 7.30 PM.

Although there is a full programme of events on the site, this, their only SF event, doesn’t get any further details beyond the listing, where it is clearly marked with a X to let people know it’s not for the norms! My information leads me to believe that this will be a Doctor Who night, though, run by Michael Perkins, chairman of Mecon 9, coming up next August. Michael is one of the most energetic of the SF fandom folk in Northern Ireland, so it promises to be a good night.

Banopticon

Posted 5 years, 9 months ago on May 1, 2005

This is a Doctor Who convention, being held in Bangor in Northern
Ireland, and is the second one there, the previous one being in 1998.

Guests include sixth Doctor Colin Baker, along with one of his
companions, Nicola Bryant, who played Peri. The adult membership fee
is STG£20, and the site also says, rather intriguingly, "Children
under 16yrs will cost £14.00." There’s an upper limit of 150 members,
too.

Originally this was to be held on the previous weekend, but this
would have clashed with Worldcon in Scotland, so was moved. Hopefully
we’ll see more Doctor Who conventions springing up all over Ireland,
with the success of the new series. Wasn’t the Dalek episode on
Saturday fantastic? I wish them well with the event, although we
won’t be able to make it. Maybe next time…
